MetaMask's Android Client Removed from Google Play
Google cites mobile mining policy violation
MetaMask's Android Client Removed from Google Play
On the morning of January 27th, Ethereum wallet MetaMask announced on Twitter that its Android client had been removed from Google Play. Google's reason for this was that they believed MetaMask violated the platform's policy against mobile mining. However, MetaMask stressed that as a cryptocurrency wallet and Ethereum application browser, it was not involved in any mining activities. They appealed the decision but were still denied by Google.
At the same time, YouTube, also owned by Google, has been removing cryptocurrency-related content, causing controversy and leading some creators to shift to decentralized social media platforms. Co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, commented on the situation, saying that "Google's censorship system has already started."
Coinbase Wallet Removes Dapp Browser Functionality
Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has announced that its mobile wallet tool, Coinbase Wallet, will remove its Dapp browser functionality in accordance with Apple's App Store platform policy.
As a result of the move, Coinbase Wallet users will no longer be able to access decentralized applications (DApps) on their mobile devices.
Coinbase has stated that it is working on a solution that will allow for DApp access on mobile devices without requiring the use of a DApp browser.
This follows a similar move from other popular wallets such as Trust Wallet, which was acquired by Binance last year. Trust Wallet also recently announced its decision to remove its built-in Dapp browser for iOS users, citing similar reasons.
While some in the cryptocurrency community have expressed disappointment with the move, Coinbase intends to continue serving its users with secure and reliable cryptocurrency storage options.
The Coinbase Wallet app remains available for download on both iOS and Android devices.
